  This was a great unit, although a little tired. Still it was very clean and had all that we needed. And the location and balcony were highpoints. The view is beautiful and you're just steps from the beach access. The directions to the check in spot were outdated so just be aware, the check in is no longer a Holiday Inn, which was super confusing. But other than that we would recommend.

  First the great: We absolutely love this place! The location can’t be beat, it is well appointed, and near everything. It’s quaint and simply lovely. To hear the waves crash right below is wonderful!
  
  We did have a problem with our reservation. I booked online the Roma, and didn’t get a confirmation. I emailed, got a confirmation but noticed our Villa could still be booked online. Confirmed again the day before. Got there and sure enough we were in a different villa. Lovely but not what we booked and it cost more. The front desk guy’s hands were tied as there was someone already staying and he didn’t have the authority to refund the difference. I just let it be, as the manager and everyone had been so nice and it was less than $100 difference. Sounds like a scheduling glitch that needs to be fixed.

  Excellent location. Stayed at Villa da Vinci about 8-9 years ago and decided to come back and try Villa Bella Mare. Enjoyed the stay except the toilet occasionally smelled of sewage and the garbage disposal also smelled a bit moldy. Perhaps due to underuse during the pandemic? I think the smells went away after the first 2 days. Please check on your plumbing. Otherwise, thoroughly enjoyed the stay and will come back again. Also met very nice neighbors who rented for a month next door. Whoever moved in above me on the 3rd night had heavy footsteps that I could hear over the bedroom ceiling and was stomping around a lot (probably unpacking) till about 10:30 pm. Didn't hear them the next morning when I left at 10 am. Place was otherwise cleaned and well supplied (clean new sponge, plenty of towels, extra toilet paper, etc.). 4 stars due to smell but 5 stars overall.

  Location and staff were great. The unit has a lot of issues. The floors were dirty and sandy when we got there. The faucet for the drinking water barely worked and the filter needed to be replaced. The main burner on the stove didn’t work so everything as at a simmer. The AC unit in the bedroom was very noisy. And the garden lighting did not work so you had to be very careful when using the first couple of steps. It is obvious that this unit #7 was beautiful at one time but it has been well used.

  We thoroughly enjoyed our one month stay at Villa Bella Mare in Jan-Feb 2021. It was Covid time, of course, so we pretty much hunkered down in the unit and contented ourselves with cooking our own meals, walking with our Golden Retriever on the beach, and enjoying the sunsets. The unit was well maintained and very clean, and the staff did a great job of quickly taking care of every little thing that needed attention. For example, they (Carlos) replaced the motor of the bathroom ceiling fan on the same day we reported that it wasn't working.
  
  The location is fantastic, with a one minute walk to the beach below and about a two-minute walk to Ralph's grocery store.
  
  This photo is pretty accurate, except that the Bird of Paradise plant on the adjacent property has grown considerably and slightly blocks the view of the surfers on the waves below.
  
  We liked the place so much that we have already booked a unit for 2022! It'll be even better when the town of Laguna Beach is thriving again post-pandemic.

  The best location ever. Waking up to see the ocean. Surf break just downstairs. Lots of restaurants around to chose from. The place though not huge is smartly organized. My husband and I stayed there for 8 nights with our pets and at no point did we feel crammed. The views are amazing. I could sit on the balcony and sip coffee for hours. Checking in and checking out was super easy.

  This villa was perfect for a quick getaway outside of the City. The room was great. There were a few bugs inside flying around. They may have come from the bath tub. It was clean, but I gave them a 4 just because of the few insects. Also at night you have to make sure the door is closed or else dragon fly will definitely join you for your stay. We will definitely stay here again.

  Laguna Beach is a beautiful place, but I'm not very happy with my stay at The Retreat in Laguna. It's an expensive inn (our bill was $2,000+ for 3 nights) and I expected better.
  
  CHECK-IN: I consider 4:00pm kind of late for check-in. Also, the person who checked me in was wearing his covid-19 mask under his chin. I asked him politely to wear his mask. He grudgingly pulled it up so his mouth was covered, but his nose was still uncovered. Passive-aggressive. Not a good way to treat your customers.
  
  VILLA MARE UNIT: The kitchen was ridiculously understocked. It was missing many very basic utensils and cookware. But my biggest disappointment was the oceanfront view. It was not as advertised in the website photos. Some giant shrubbery (banana trees?) have grown up and blocked a large part of the view.
